Rosia Montana Project is a huge open-pit mining project initiated by Gabriel Resources and Gold Corporation, who planned to use cyanide in their exploitation. The ecological consequences would have led to serious pollution levels and the destruction of natural and historical patrimony. 974 families would have been expulsed as part of this project and moved tens of kilometres away from Rosia Montana. After the governmental authorizations, a political movement of an incredible amplitude exploded in 2013 in the country, in particular in Bucharest and Cluj. A new generation of activists was born, who invented new practices and forms of organization (night and day manifestations, proposal of eco-touristic counter-projects, creation of the platform “Salvati Rosia Montana”, and organizing FanFest festival). I took the photographs when I attended FanFest festival in 2014. Despite the aggressive lobby of the company, the project was officially abandoned at the end of 2014 by the government, and Rosia Montana was proposed by the Ministry of Culture to be listed on Unesco World Heritage.
